MSD Rainscaping Grants for St. Louis Homeowners

MSD Project Clear's Rainscaping Small Grants Program can help eligible property owners install landscaping that captures and manages stormwater. Program boundaries, eligible work, award amounts, and procedures can change, so homeowners should rely on MSD's current materials before spending money.

Check the program area first

Eligibility depends on the property and current program map—not simply a St. Louis mailing address. Use MSD's official program-area information and contact the program if the boundary is unclear.

Apply before construction

Do not assume completed work will qualify. Follow the current application, site-plan, review, agreement, installation, inspection, documentation, and reimbursement steps published by MSD.

Rainscaping is not every drainage project

Rain gardens, amended soil, native landscaping, and related practices manage runoff differently from a conventional French drain, buried downspout line, foundation waterproofing system, or sump-pump repair.

Build from official guidance

Confirm eligible expenses, contractor requirements, maintenance obligations, payment timing, and the maximum available award directly with MSD. Save approvals and receipts throughout the project.

Before work begins

  • Call 811 before excavation and follow the utility-marking instructions.
  • Confirm property boundaries, easements, and the proposed discharge location.
  • Ask who will verify permits and approvals for the exact jurisdiction.
  • Get the diagnosis, materials, route, outlet, restoration, and warranty in writing.
Planning information only.

Site elevations, utilities, soil, rainfall behavior, public infrastructure, and local requirements can materially change the appropriate design and price.
